The Role

As a result of our recent expansion into this region we have a new opportunity for an experienced HR professional on a part time basis (25 hours per week) to provide end to end employee lifecycle support for our Canadian network of optometry services. Locally this is a stand alone role. However, it is supported by OW’s globally dispersed HR team. Reporting to the Sydney based HR Manager the key responsibilities involve:

  • Proactively fulfilling talent acquisition requirements including raising job ads, candidate screening, selection and assisting with onboarding and induction processes.
  • Timely facilitation of cross-boarding processes and ensuring personnel records are kept up to date and other stakeholders such as payroll are informed of staffing changes.
  • Provide high-quality advice and service to management on employee relations and performance management issues. Including but not limited to policy and labour law interpretation, health, safety and wellbeing and undertake grievance/conduct investigations.
  • Assist with the review or development of labour law compliant policies and procedures.
  • Provide prompt high-quality support and advice to management and employees on all HR matters. Including but not limited to policy and award interpretation, WHS and employee wellness.
  • Participate in other projects and initiatives as they arise.

As this role is part of a globally dispersed team we ask that this person can commit to one to two hours per week connecting with their global team members via video link. This may mean working these hours outside of standard business hours. Similarly, initial induction into the role is likely to require working outside business hours to ensure proper training and support is delivered and enable success.

From time to time this person may be asked to visit one of our sites to meet with our leaders or carry out inspections and other relevant business activity. Therefore, access to a vehicle and full license is essential. OW reimburses staff for business kilometers travelled to cover such expenses.

Selection Criteria

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resource management or related discipline.
  • Minimum 3 years experience as a HR generalist including carrying out workplace investigations.
  • Strong knowledge of national and provincial employment legislation.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and deadline driven.
  • Effective relationship building skills.
